I’m not sure wassup with Chase lately on all these bonuses, but it seems like they want your business bad. Bad enough to give you $200 if you open a business checking account with them.
You are wondering, Can I open one anyway..say sole proprietorship? ummm…NO. I don’t think you can just walk in and say you have an Ebay business and you want to open a business checking account.
If you are a licensed professional such as a lawyer, teacher, or accountant, you can open a business checking as sole proprietorship without your business being registered with the state.
Obviously, if you have a business, this is an easy $200 bonus. In order to have no monthly fees, your account balance must maintain $5K per month(Chase credit card balance counts too).
Lets do some math: If you have $5K in a 5% APY savings account for 6 months, you would make around $125 in interest. Instead, take the $9 monthly hit for 6 months = $54. Account must be opened for 6 months before closing.

Tried to open as a sole proprietorship and got shut out. They told me to go back after I get some official documents, so I ordered an EIN online (http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=102767,00.html) and will go try again after I receive it in the mail.
Chase will not tell you the monthly unless you ask for the fee to be given to you in writing. the csr told me that ya it was about $9.00. Later, I was given the paperwork and the fee is $12.00. The CSR on the phone said that it would have been $8.00 if the account was a “suburban” account instead of a city account. Chase goes by zip codes.
