Sure. Just call them and see if they have a promotion. If not, threaten to cancel and talk to retention.

Can you do this even if you are already in a contract? I just signed up for a 24 month contract through DishNetwork and I think the prices will go up in February, so I am trying to plan now how I am going to handle them so that I can keep the price low.

Just started internet service with Comcast. When I phoned to inquire I was told service would be over $40/month. When I mentioned that I had seen the current internet spectial of 19.99 for 6 months for current cable customers I was told they would that honor that rate for me. Remember to always inquire about specials or lower rates. The worst that can happen is you are told no but you will never know unless you ask.

Threatening (nicely, of course) to switch to a more affordable competitor can also get your price down. I did this once with AOL (before they stopped charging high-speed customers), and lowered my monthly bill.

I did the same thing with Time Warner. I had a yesr of RR Lite for $19.99 when the year was up the rate for RR Lite was to go to $29.99. Their current promotion was full blown RR for 6 months at $29.99 I told them I'd stick around if they could give me the full year for $29.99. Ususally the company will want to work with you if you are cool with them on the phone. BTW I'm just outside of Albany, NY.

I am in Miami, FL and currently on $19.99 Internet promo for 6 month with Comcast. I am also on their promo whatever that is for the cable (don't remember the exact number) I learned to ASK for the promotion discounts only this year. Sorry to say, we have paid Comcast oodles of money over the past 10 years, something like $150 per month, every month. My DH needs his cable and we both use the Internet. What can I say. I love my DH... LOL.. can't cut his cable.

Wonder if I can leverage this against Direct TV as a meet-comp? Worth a try!

Sigh. . . this is the problem with living in a semi-rural area. No competition for cable or internet servic. Unless you go to dial-up or satellite.
