Citibank Savings 40000 Thank Points Bonus Offer Code CSZ2 is now available online. I wrote about this offer a week ago. From the website:

1. Open a Citibank regular checking account, link it to a new Citibank Ultimate Savings Account, and complete qualifying banking activities.*
2. Deposit $25,000 or more into your Citibank Ultimate Savings Account, fund your checking account with $1,000 and enroll it in ThankYou Network.
3. Get your 2 round-trip tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S. (up to a $400 value each) by redeeming your 40,000 ThankYou Points.

Alan, a regular reader, wrote that “CSR tells me the promotion is based on amount DEPOSITED, NOT on BALANCE. Therefore, the same $5,000 could be redeposited five times to qualify.” If that is true, simply cash in and out 5 times from your account. You would probably want to do this every other day.

The 40000 Thank You Points can be converted into two roundtrip airlines tickets or $400 in cards from the Thank You Network. If you already have an Ultimate Savings Account, then there is no need to open another account. Just deposit $25K and you are set. Make sure to call the CSR 1-866-458-9213 to confirm this. Otherwise, account must be opened by 3/31/08.

I’m not sure how long the money must be kept in the account if any. If you want to be safe, leave it there until you get your 40K points which should be awarded in less than 120 days.

Hustler,

I’d like to know more info on this promotion. I already have an Ultimate Savings Accounts along with their checkings account. To qualify for the 40,000 TY Pts, will depositing $25k be all I need to do? Or will I have to open another Checkings Account?

I don’t think you have to open a new one. Call them 1-866-458-9213 to make sure.

From the website:

“*This offer is only available through http://www.citibank.com or via CitiPhone Banking®. To qualify for this offer you must make a minimum deposit of $25,000 into a new or existing Citibank® Ultimate Savings Account and open a new regular checking account with minimum $1,000 deposit in a Citibank Account, Citibank Everything Counts® or Citigold® relationship package. Accounts must be opened by 3/31/08. Accounts funded remotely via http://www.citibank.com or CitiPhone Banking® must be funded by 4/30/08 with funds not currently held at Citibank or its affiliates. Customer must within 60 days of account opening (1) enroll their new checking account in ThankYou® Network and (2) complete at least one direct deposit to, or at least two electronic bill payments from, the checking account each month for three consecutive months. Electronic bill payments are those made using Citibank® Online, Citi MobileSM or CitiPhone Banking®, excluding bill payments made to Citibank credit cards and transfer payments made to accounts with Citibank or its affiliates.”

The swapping of $5k in and out isn’t easy because Citi has a 10k max ACH withdrawl per month. I suppose you could push from savings to checking, write a check and deposit it in your external account to push back to Citi again. Now whether that would count as “new money” is anyone’s guess.

Also, your point about leaving the 25k in 120 days is somewhat flawed. It would be 120 days past the date in the 3rd month where your 3rd direct deposit and or billpays have occurred.

I did see posts elsewhere where people have said that the CSRs are saying that the 25k doesn’t have to be kept there (if so, much like the Fidelity UAL deal last yr). YMMV

“open a new regular checking account”

So, what’s a “regular checking account”? Can it be one of these three that they offer?

Citibank® Ez-Checking
Citibank Access Account
Basic Checking

I’m leaning towards Basic Checking, because I am in CA, and can get away w/ a $500 min balance for no monthly fees.

I wonder how this hustle is working out. I have been having issues. The CR was saying that my $25K needed to be an initial deposit. Like if I had $25K on hand, would I be hustling for $400?

my 40,000 just posted. Add that to the 6000 from opening the Citi Diamond rewards and the 6000 (still waiting on this one) from the Citi checking account survey…. thats a cool free 52,000 points. Easy flight tickets for myself and my girl. Citi Point system is the easiest to get the most out of.
