I have two main checking accounts online – Everbank & Presidential.

Everbank Pros:

  • Excellent customer service
  • 6.01% intro rate for first 90 days
  • ATM rebates & free no postage deposit
  • No direct Deposit requirement
  • All your accounts from everywhere on one page
  • You can make $50 if you decided to cancel your account at the 90 days mark.

Everbank Cons:

  • 3.25% Apr after the promo rate when comparing with Presidential 4.5% rate.
  • Must have $1500 in account at all time if you want free bill pay.

Presidential Pros:

  • 4.5% rate up to 25K at all time.
  • Free initial checks, bill pay, check images, and access to ATM nationwide.
  • You can also open 5.25% Savings Account with 5K initial deposit.

Presidential Cons:

  • Require Direct Deposit to avoid fees
  • $1000 minimum balance at all time

Overall, I like this combo very much. They both have excellent customer service & FDIC insured. Again, both are Checking Accounts so you cannot beat that with all the features. I will write another post soon for my online Saving accounts.

Hey Hustler!

Yowassup? One thing I’m not clear on is the mention of making $50 if you cancel at the 90 day mark. What do you mean by that? The interest works out to less than half that, so is there some special offer or something I’m missing?

Love the blog, and read it several times a week. Keep up the free chaching!

I like HSBC. They’re currently at 5.05% right now, and their customer service has been excellent. You can also get a free checking account, and they’ll send you a book of free checks in case you ever need to use them. Also, they have no minimum (or maybe it’s $1). If you want an easy $25, get someone to refer you ::hint, hint (me):: to ING, and open it with $250. You can take it back out later.

Matt,

that’s $50 is a guarantee from Everbank that even if you decided to cancel after using their service…they will give you $50…kinda weird huh. Check out their website for more details.

Stingy student,

HSBC 5.05% you mention I think is for Savings…I have another Savings account that gives me 5.61%…more details on a later post. These two are for Checking.

You’re right, I didn’t realize that these were checking accounts, great deal! Still, you can link the HSBC savings to the checking and it’s basically instant transfer, so it’s basically like having a 5.05% checking, right?

Yeah, being as the link to both of these banks are affiliate links I’m not sure how legit this idea is. I don’t like the idea of having to deposit $1000+ or more into an account for $50 free dollars.. If you read the fine print they charge you $25 if you close your account within 60 days. So there went your 50 bucks. Come on..
