Hi Hustler,

Great website, quick question for you, I have done several of the bonus checking accounts with branches in my area over the years, so I have always been able to close the account in person even if I open it online. If I did this bonus from NWFCU, how do you close the account?

Thanks
Jake

Jake – my limited experience involves writing the branch a signed letter or fax stating you wish to close the account. They will then send you a certified check of the balance to your address.

I have had several bonus accounts at small local banks across the country. If possible I usually try to withdraw the funds out first via ACH from my main bank (Ally) just to simplify things. Most accounts from my experience believe it or not can be closed over the phone (even if you still have a balance), they just send you a check in the mail. Other accounts require fax or written letter. I have never experienced a problem closing a remote account. I have heard of some banks requiring notarized letters, but never actually experienced it.
