One of the biggest bank bonuses I’ve seen, Northwest Federal Credit Union is now offering a $300 new checking account bonus with 3 consecutive payroll direct deposits of at least $500 each good until May 31, 2012. Here’s their huge affiliate membership list. Another way to gain membership for Northwest FCU is to pay a one time $10 fee to join the Financial Awareness Network (FAN). However, the $300 bonus promotion may be targeted in the mail. YMMV.
Few important notes:
- Choose Basic Checking – A simple, no fee, no minimum balance account.
- Make 3 consecutive payroll direct deposits of at least $500 by July 31, 2012, to earn the bonus.
- Opening an account will result in a hard pull from Experian.
- VISA/Mastercard funding up to $5,000.
Northwest Federal Credit Union branches are located in the Virginia cities of Manassas, Chantilly, Herndon and Vienna. If you are living near them, give them a branch visit to see if you qualify. I would simply open the Basic Checking since there is no maintenance fees and no minimum balance requirements. Is this a Nationwide bonus, or do you need to live in Virginia to qualify?

Bad news for anyone trying to cash in on offer. I applied online and NWFCU contacted me. The offer was a targeted mailout to existing NWFCU account members to get them to sign-up for direct deposit. Each member got a specific logged letter with $1 attached. I asked them if they would still let me have the offer as a new account and they would not. The service rep did say that their promotion was put out on a lot of blogs and they had been getting lots of folks applying b/c of it, but unfortunately they wouldn’t get the bonus either. Not sure if anyone else was able to convince them.

This was a very targeted promo only via snail mail to specific existing customers.
People looking to transfer their money to this bank or switch to this bank will NOT get the offer. The most you will get currently is $65 only IF you make 3 consecutive $500 deposits by 7/31/12.
NOT worth it to me since there are better bank promos out there.
