I put the code in at the very beginning of the form and then throughout the various pages of the form to fill out there is a button near top left to see the bonus requirements. Nothing about 1k spend. Just the 2 calendar consecutive months of blll-pay’s appear to be required. Is anyone else seeing this?
baccts says
Do I have to keep the credit card open in order to get the thank you points?
Susan says
I thought that Citi discontinued letting lines of credit and credit cards count towards the minimum balance needed to avoid the checking account fees, such as with the Citigold account. Please confirm.

I opened the citigold account last year, received the bonus in December and then closed my Citigold account last month. Will I be able to get this bonus again?
leng says
yes u will. the letter says that u must not have had a citi checking account in the last 60 calendar days. U are good to go. I did the same thing
Rusty says
Hey Hustler I used my BoA Alaska card for cc funding and it wasn’t a cash advance.
Graham says
Nice! I used my Barclay Arrival card to fund the account and it worked with the $0 cash advance.
Fred Shaw says
The Barclay US Airways card worked too
Tina Tran says
The US Airways card def works!
Sam says
Too bad the Barclay Priceline Visa was declined as a cash advance.
Mr. F says
Be careful when you use citi cards for the cc funding! A customer service rep told me my citi platinum select would be identified as a cash advance. My citi executive was okay though.

Have anyone succeeded in getting these bonuses? I am hesitant to spend 90 USD for getting nothing…

I’ve received the Citi Premier Credit Card bonus of 50k for spending $3k in 3 months. The bonus came fairly quickly after I met the $3k in just 2 months. I have opened the checking account and have verified that I met the guidelines for the 40k points but have not received them yet. I’m probably just being impatient as I really want to cash in my points and switch to the double cash back card which seems to have a better overall return (2 pennies per dollar on virtually everything you pay off vs. 1 to 3 pennies per purchase depending on category). I may actually open a few cards for different purposes. Amazon has a 5% cash back card on all amazon purchases which would be great for me because I use Amazon regularly! Also looking at a Sam’s Club card that offers 5% back on gas and 3% on groceries (I think). It takes a little discipline to know which cards to use when but I love these Citi promotions. My wife and I will have generated around $2k in student loan rebates in just under 3 months thanks to these things!

I applied online for the citi gold checking account. I received my rejection letter today:
” Thank you for your recent request to open a new citibank account. We completed our review of your account application. Regrettably , due to information we received from the consumer reporting agency (s) listed below, we are unable to open an account for you at this time.
While our decision was based in whole or in part on information that we received from the consumer reporting agency or agencies, they were not direct participants in our actual decision. The reporting agency (s) identified played no part in our decision and are unable to provide specific reasons for our decision.
My credit is excellent, never have bounced a check or paid anything late in 30 years.
No point in wasting your time signing up for this account. They don’t seem interested in giving out the bonus points.
Sam says
Does it ask for the citi credit card number/information when you signup for the this account? I dont have my card with me at this point
Shawn says
The checking account application is kind of tedious and doesn’t make a ton of sense. They want you to register a username and password (despite already being a credit card customer). At that point, they recognize that you have an existing account (based on social security # probably) and ask if you want to merge the accounts. The one thing I like about Citi’s online platform is that it is designed to be all-inclusive. You can link any and all outside accounts to this one and monitor your balances on one page. That means I can see my PNC credit card, checking, and savings next to my Citi checking and credit card as well as my Capital One Savings account lol!

If is use the 40,000 point towards a ticket that’s $900, which will be $500 from point considering 1.25 cent worth and pay myself for the rest $400. Will the still be getting a 1099 since the ticket is worth more than $599? thanks.
marina says
would you please clarify about taxes on the points for the citi offer. I already have 100 000 points for 2 citi thank you cards this year. if I open the account and get additional 40000 points I would pay taxes on it without redeeming of any points? Also if I will redeem points next year for airfare ticket or gift cards it will trigger taxes when doing so? do points expire and when ? Thank you.
Hu$tler says
I believe the 60K points rule only apply to Citi bank bonus. Credit cards bonuses are completely separate and have never been taxed.
myfreemoneymanjoe h says
yes, this is true, I’ve never had to pay taxes on the tens of thousands of dollars of credit card points I’ve received.
Sun says
I already have around 56,000 points via Thank you credit card. Will I need to pay taxes if I get these additional 40,000 points? if yes, How much taxes and on how much amount/points? Thanks.
Hu$tler says
Credit card bonuses and bank bonuses are separate. I don’t think they can count both the same.
Sun says
The montly fee for Citigold checking is $30 OR Maintain a combined average monthly balance of $50,000.
Cathy says
Do you think I can apply for the Citi thank you card first then apply for the checking account?
Hu$tler says
Give it a try. You can definitely get the card.
Shannon Biggs says
Awesome web site. Thank you.
