Many are confused with the $55 & $60 membership fees. Some OLD online posts quote $55. That was the fee BEFORE June 1, 2017.
Since June 2017, the fee has been $60 for EVERYONE. The $55 no longer applies to anyone.
The veteran discount, like almost all their promotions, is for new members only. This is to entice people to join. If you qualify, you still pay $60 like anyone, but you get $60 worth of coupons to offset the fee.
Once in a while, Costco offers this to civilians too through Groupon and other ways. But they too, have to not had a membership in the last 18 months.

Is there any way to get this at a renewal ? Our son just got their membership less than a week ago and they mentioned they were getting it because he was being shipped out and his family was staying here and NO ONE mentioned this to him … WHY NOT ?? are your people told not to mention it if the applicant doesn’t ask even if they mention they are service men or woman ?
Gary Lee says
Gary Lee,need to know how to get this discount ??\
Brent Wayne Price says
Come on fellow vets, stop complaining like something is owed to us. They could choose not to give a discount or coupons to anyone and that is their right. All the vets complaining as though we’re owed something takes away from the idea of having been a “volunteer” in the first place. I know some who’ve posted may have been drafted, but even then, we didn’t serve with the mindset of ‘great, I’m looking forward to the Costco discount, they better have it ready.’
Brent Wayne Price says
It’s a common business practice to attract new customers. You haven’t been slighted in any way. They gave you what you purchased in the beginning.
Christine White says
Hi I am a american women veteran. IO have been a costco memeber for years. How do I get this discount?
Knowthe Valueofadollar says
Money is money. Products are money. You will use the paper towels, so if you get the paper towels for 0$ and they cost everyone else $15, then you have effectively been handed the $15 it would have taken to buy those paper towels. In fact, you come out ahead since you don’t have to pay taxes on that $15. Geeze, “Don’t look a gift horse…” people.
Nora says
There really is not a discount with COSTCO. Check out SAMS Club on Vets Day. : ) Its like that response said you get coupons for free paper towels. Ha!
Marco says
To all the veterans and active duty. The basic membership is now $60 for everyone. If you are renewing your annual membership card, see if they will do it as an Active Duty, Reservist/Guard, Veteran/Retiree, or Registered Dependent.
Andrea Graham says
They send you via mail coupons for free items which add up to $60 such as free case of water, case of paper towels, Kirkland batteries etc.
Paul Sayers says
I am a Korean veteran and have been shopping at Costco since the store opened, how do I get this discount?
Jon Fleming says
Another veteran discount that is not available to all veterans. I am already a member of COSTCO so I don’t get the deal. I just renewed for another year starting in October. Why can’t I get a discount because I have already been a member?
M Scott McMannis says
I’m a vet and a Costco member. Do you mean I am NOT eligible for the vet membership??? Why am I not treated the same as a vet who is not a member? I have been a Costco customer for years but get no break while a vet that has never been a Costco supporter gets $60??? This DOES NOT sit well!
John Gilbert says
If everyone is stating a regular membership is only 55 dollars why would I pay 60 dollars using my military id to receive a so called discount I am sure some one is mistaken about active duty an veterans discounts
Nick Skyba says
There is a relevant concern about a real discount vs not real….will you address this issue?
Tom says
You paid $55.00 and new military members are going to pay $60.00. Are you stupid or what? Where is the better deal there?
Pat Soong says
I’m already a Costco member and a veteran, how do I get the Military Discount with the upcoming Veteran’s Day?
George Clark says
Why are you charging Military Veterans $60 for Costco memberships when it costs $55 to join? That is not “military discount”.
darlene wyber says
What if you & your fiancé are already member’s & he’s a veteran?
Bill Burek says
What about those that are members? Why is it the new members always get the deal? Marketing!
Darryl says
What if your already a member do you sign up or just show your I.D.
Scott J Pender says
Thought there was Veteran discount for membership… Gee it’s $60 regular membershep. Where is the discounted membership???
