Lets take a walk down memory lane with Sprint ever since the EVO was released.
- First, there was a $10 for premium data on “Premium” phones.
- Second, no employee discounts for the additional lines.
- Then the annual upgrades were gone.
- Next, the $10 premium data on all 3G phones.
- Again with some maintenance Fees increased to $2.
Sprint is back at it again with their nickel and dime method. Apparently, starting February 1st, 2012, they will increase your bill by almost $5 with Family and Business Share monthly plan for those with a corporate discount. They will change Line 2 into applicable Add-a-Phone rate and will not be discount eligible. Discounts will only apply to the monthly recurring charge of the primary line.
Here’s the Math breakdown:
Current Policy: L1 + L2 = $129.99 – 25% discount = $97.50
New Policy: L1 $110 – 25% discount + L2 $19.99 = $102.50
Hence, your rates just went up by $5 each month!
You will have 30 days to cancel your lines without paying the Early Termination Fees. However, you could also negotiate and get freebies such as service credit to offset this fee or full upgrade on your phones if you don’t want to cancel. The easiest way to take care of this is talk to Sprint Executive Office to cancel.
Follow these steps:
- Call (866) 727-0665 and ask for Executive Office
- or Call *2 Cancel or 1-800-927-2199 which handles customers receiving corporate discounts on their accounts.
- or Call Sprint’s Consumerist Hotline (703-433-4401)
- Tell them there is a Material Adverse Change with the new policy and you want to cancel your lines without paying ETF.
If you want to negotiate, then call customer service and ask for Account Services(retention department).
When You Don’t Have To Pay An Early Termination Fee
You aren’t responsible for paying an Early Termination Fee when terminating Services: (a) provided on a month-to-month basis; (b) consistent with our published trial period return policy; or (c) in response to a materially adverse change we make to the Agreement as described directly below. Our Right To Change The Agreement & Your Related Rights
We may change any part of the Agreement at any time, including, but not limited to, rates, charges, how we calculate charges, or your terms of Service. We will provide you notice of material changes—and may provide you notice of non-material changes—in a manner consistent with this Agreement (see “Providing Notice To Each Other Under The Agreement” section). If a change we make to the Agreement is material and has a material adverse effect on Services under your Term Commitment, you may terminate each line of Service materially affected without incurring an Early Termination Fee only if you: (a) call us within 30 days after the effective date of the change; and (b) specifically advise us that you wish to cancel Services because of a material change to the Agreement that we have made. If you do not cancel Service within 30 days of the change, an Early Termination Fee will apply if you terminate Services before the end of any applicable Term Commitment.

Nextel towers were taken down. We had to close our Nextel account for that reason.

I have missed all abilities to get out of contract. Got the new LTE phone and my service actually got worse. I finally just switched over to Verizon. Their Customer NO-Service department would not let me out of the ETF fees. We have two phones under this plan. I told them I would send them a penny a day for the next 59 and 1/2 years. That’s not true. It’ll be off in 7 years, so they will not see a dime from me. I have contacted the FTC, GA SOS, MO SOS, BBB, and other agencies. It’s been a waste of time.

I had a phone from sprint (nexus), that after about 6 months of having completely stopped working right. (it messed up occasionally from the beginning of me getting it) but I let it go until I couldn’t use it anymore, it wouldn’t charge at all. While this was going on it was dead (bc it was so hard to charge) and I didn’t keep up with it..and left it in a hotel out of town. Instead of going all the way back to get a broken phone, I filed a claim that I lost it. There was a $100 fee to get the refurbished phone. When I got the new phone in the mail, as soon as I started using it it started messing up. It shuts off randomly by itself and decides when it doesn’t want to charge. Clearly I’m upset about this. I called sprint and made another claim and they told me they would send me another phone with no charge (and wouldn’t let me choose any other phone..which I wanted to bc clearly the Nexus is crap!)….in the few days it took for the new phone to come in…I dropped the piece of crap they sent me the first time and the screen cracked. Now, if I return the phone cracked I will be charged $375. Im trying to fight this because it is not my fault they sent me a non-working phone to begin with…I can live with a cracked screen…if the phone was a working phone I would not make a claim for a new phone bc of a cracked screen. The only thing they tell me is to return the new working phone and make a new claim on my cracked phone…and pay another $100 for a new phone. The only reason I want to return the phone is bc they sent me one that doesn’t work! Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do…or how I can get out of my contract. Help please!

I just upgraded my phone to the HTC LTE EVO on May 23rd. I have been calling Sprint this last week because my service SUCKS!!! It’s ridiculious. I haven’t been able to recieve any calls in the last 2+ weeks. I don’t get my text messages until 4 hours or 3 days later. I get voicemails hours or days later too. I called several times to complain. They said that it isn’t the network and they sent me into the store to get the phone checked my a tech. The tech said it isn’t the phone. How the heck do I get out of this contract??? I’m 8 months pregnant and I am very nervous that I am going go into labor and my phone won’t be able to make calls. PLEASE HELP ME. The people from the store and customer service said that I only have 14 days to switch my phone or cancel my contract. Is this true? What can I do? I don’t have $350 to get out of this contract. Plus I’ll be out of the $200 that I paid for the new phone.

I have been having the same issue. I was told that Sprint would improve their service, and I have been waiting, but no improvements yet. It is disturbing to pay for services I am not getting. They agreed to waive the termination fee for the iPhone, but are refusing to refund my money, the $199 I paid for the phone. They only agreed to waive the ETF after I reported them to the BBB. So now, I wait for the BBB to respond again to see if I can get the refund for the phone, since I can’t use the data and voice 35% of the time.
Mitch says
Would this be available now since they are increasing the fees for TEP?
Daisy N. says
Hi Hu$tler, I hope you would be able to help me with this same ETF issue. My new contract with Sprint was signed on March 13, 2012 (although I’ve been with them since 2010). This summer I have to leave the country due to some immigration issues (truly out of my hand). Would I be able to negotiate with Sprint to avoid the fee? Thanks in advance! D.
Hu$tler says
If you are leaving the country, I don’t think they can go after you in whatever country you are going to.
Daisy N. says
Yeah I was thinking about that too. But I do have a social security number and I don’t want a collection messed up my record when I come back to the states for work in the future… I may just try to negotiate with them then. Will let you guys know how it turn out.
Regina says
I’m the second line on a family shared plan with an employee discount. Would this still apply for ETF waived? Or at least an early upgrade?
Hu$tler says
This was back in February. You can call Account Services and try. Worse they can say is No.

PLEASE HELP. So i got a phone with sprint like a couple months ago and they told me my bill would be around 90$ a month. i got on in the mail and it around 190$ so i called customer service and they told me that was the store people said was completely inaccuarte and have no idea where they got 90$ from. So i cancelled my plan on the 14th day. SO i WAS within the time limit to cancel. well now Im sent on the collection agency telling me that i have to pay 366$ for temination and service fees. but people at sprint told me that i dont have to pay absolutely any money and that im in the clear because of their new policy. HOW CAN I PROVE THIS or what do i need to do because i can absolutely NOT pay 366$ someone help please

I guess I came across this article too late as it is way past the 30 days of Feb1. Is there any other way that I can get out of my sprint contract? My service went from great back in Sept 2011 when I started with them, now I’m dropping calls left and right. Can’t get signal where I was had perfect signal. My internet doesn’t work right it’s so slow that its not even worth bothering with. I’ve called them twice and twice they said they will escalate the issue to have an engineer look at it, only to find out that it never got that far because my issue was not “approved”. What kind of crap is that?!?!?!?!
Megan says
Is there any way out of a single line commitment, sales agent lied to me about the rebate, the employee discount, and the billing, i really feel ripped off….
