Bring Down Your Internet Bill

I’m with Time Warner Cable and my 1 year $29.95 promo was over last month. I called them and asked to be transferred to Retention. I told the CSR I want to cancel the bill because it was too expensive. Right after I said that, he offered me $29.95 for the next six months. I asked if there is a $19.99 Promo, unfortunately the $29.95 is the only current promo running. I decided to stay with them for the $29.95 per month.

If you are paying anything more than $30 a month, call right away and see if they can give you a deal. I hear that Comcast is also giving people $19.99 a month for six months. This depends on location. Here’s the current list.

Regions where it is working:

Philly suburbs-$19.99/year; upgraded cable package(added HD DVR, HBO, etc) worth $40 for 12 months
Utah – Downgraded to the 4mb/386k plan for 24.99 a month for 6 months.
Chicago – EZILY
Indianapolis, IN – Got $29.99/year
San Francisco, CA – got 19.99/3 months 29.99/3 months for an average of 24.99
Southeast MI – $19.95 for 6 mos
Atlanta – 19.99 for 6 months
Seattle / Tacoma – $99 for triple play package for 1 year. They gave me the introductory price offer, even though I’m existing customer.
Northern VA/ Washington DC – 19.99 for 1 year

Sigh. . . this is the problem with living in a semi-rural area. No competition for cable or internet servic. Unless you go to dial-up or satellite.

Wonder if I can leverage this against Direct TV as a meet-comp? Worth a try!

I am in Miami, FL and currently on $19.99 Internet promo for 6 month with Comcast. I am also on their promo whatever that is for the cable (don’t remember the exact number) I learned to ASK for the promotion discounts only this year. Sorry to say, we have paid Comcast oodles of money over the past 10 years, something like $150 per month, every month. My DH needs his cable and we both use the Internet. What can I say. I love my DH… LOL.. can’t cut his cable.

I did the same thing with Time Warner. I had a yesr of RR Lite for $19.99 when the year was up the rate for RR Lite was to go to $29.99. Their current promotion was full blown RR for 6 months at $29.99 I told them I’d stick around if they could give me the full year for $29.99. Ususally the company will want to work with you if you are cool with them on the phone. BTW I’m just outside of Albany, NY.

Threatening (nicely, of course) to switch to a more affordable competitor can also get your price down. I did this once with AOL (before they stopped charging high-speed customers), and lowered my monthly bill.

Just started internet service with Comcast. When I phoned to inquire I was told service would be over $40/month. When I mentioned that I had seen the current internet spectial of 19.99 for 6 months for current cable customers I was told they would that honor that rate for me. Remember to always inquire about specials or lower rates. The worst that can happen is you are told no but you will never know unless you ask.

Can you do this even if you are already in a contract? I just signed up for a 24 month contract through DishNetwork and I think the prices will go up in February, so I am trying to plan now how I am going to handle them so that I can keep the price low.

Sure. Just call them and see if they have a promotion. If not, threaten to cancel and talk to retention.
