Halloween is not technically a holiday as it is just the time of year where everyone roams the streets dressed up in costumes and buy candy. In fact, shoppers are expected to spend over $10 billion on Halloween-related products this year, according to an estimate from the National Retail Federation, so it’s possible you might also need access to your bank account during this time.

Are Banks Closed on Halloween 2021?
Halloween falls on October 31, which is widely acknowledged and celebrated, but it isn’t a federal holiday. So on the years that it falls on a normal working day, banks will generally be open.
Because this year Halloween falls on a Sunday, banks will generally not be open. There are exceptions, though, since some banks do offer branches that will operate on Sunday. Before you head to your local branch though on Halloween, be sure to call ahead or use a branch locator on your bank’s website to confirm whether it will be open or closed.
Tips for Banking on Halloween
If you have a smartphone and a debit or ATM card, you may be able to do most of your banking even if your local branch is closed on Halloween. You can:
- Deposit cash or checks or make a withdrawal at an ATM
- Make a mobile check deposit
- Transfer funds and pay bills using your bank’s mobile banking app
- Send or receive money using Zelle, Venmo, PayPal or Cash App
Alternatively, you can get all your banking done on Friday before Halloween or use your bank’s online banking platform.
Upcoming Bank Holidays in 2021
It’s a good idea to plan ahead for the last few bank holidays of 2021. Banks will generally be closed on these upcoming holidays:
- Nov. 11: Veterans Day
- Nov. 25: Thanksgiving Day
- Dec. 25: Christmas Day
Halloween is not considered to be a bank holiday since it is a state holiday and not a federal holiday. As a result of Halloween not being considered a bank holiday, most banks will remain open on Halloween and follow their regularly scheduled hours.
