Due to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, American Express will waive all credit card annual membership fees for active duty military service personnel. This includes Amex Platinum card, Premier Rewards Gold card, and many more! In addition, they waive the overlimit fees, late payment fees, returned payment fees, and statement copy request fees.
American Express Waives Annual Fees for Active Duty Military
Servicemembers Civil Relief Act(SCRA) was mainly for alleviating high interest rates on active duty military members with several sections covering taxes, lawsuits, and outstanding debt. Credit card companies are only legally required to keep your interest rate below 6% on any outstanding debt. In addition, American Express will waive all card holder fees for active duty military. AMEX decided to go beyond their legal requirements with waiving the following fees:
- Annual membership fees
- Overlimit fees
- Late Payment fees
- Returned Payment fees
- Statement Copy Request fees
For those in the military, I would sign up for some Amex cards due to the best travel perks in the industry:
How to Get AMEX Military Discount
Simply call the number on the back of your card or 1-800-528-4800 and tell them you are on active duty military. Tell them about the benefits in accordance with the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act including no annual fees and more. If the CSR is not familiar with this benefit, ask for the supervisor. They will ask you a few questions and some verifications for the fee waivers. Within 6 weeks, you will get a phone call about your account being approved. Those that are in the military, these are some great benefits you can get for free from American Express. Kudos go to Amex for helping our members of the military!
