 The British Airways Visa Signature® Card offers 75,000 Avios after you spend $5,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. You'll earn: • 3 Avios per $1 spent on purchases with British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia, and LEVEL. • 2 Avios per $1 spent on hotel accommodations when purchased directly with the hotel. • 1 Avios per $1 spent on all other purchases. This card comes with a $95 annual fee and no foreign transaction fees. You'll be able to get 10% off British Airways flights starting in the US when you book through the website provided in your welcome materials. In addition, every calendar year you make $30,000 in purchases on your British Airways Visa card, you'll earn a Travel Together Ticket good for two years. |
What Are Avios?
Avios are the shared reward currency for British Airways Executive Club. One Avios is exactly one British Airways mile. Benefits of Avios include:
- Cabin upgrades using Avios
- A range of travel reward redemption options, including hotels and car hire for British Airways Executive Club members
- Use Avios for one-way flights or mix and match the airports you fly to and from for more flexibility
- Use Avios on Oneworld flights, including transatlantic Iberia flights, and non-transatlantic American Airline flights, including the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands and Switzerland. Taxes and fees will apply.
Why You Should Apply:
Welcome Offer: Upon approval, earn 50,000 bonus Avios after you spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. Plus, get additional 25,000 bonus Avios when you spend $10,000 on purchases within your first year for a total of 75,000 bonus Avios. Finally, get an additional 25,000 bonus Avios when you spend a total of $20,000 on purchases within your first year of card membership.
Travel Together Ticket: Make $30,000 in purchases ever year on your British Airways Visa Signature® Card and earn a Travel Together Ticket, good for two years after issued. Redeem your Avios for one reward seat for yourself and use your Travel Together Ticket to bring a companion in the same cabin even first class. Note, you’ll still have to pay taxes and other fees on the companion ticket.
Earn up to 3X Avios: Earn three Avios per $1 spent each time you use your British Airways Visa Signature® Card on a British Airways, Iberia Airlines, or OpenSkies purchase. Use your Avios toward British Airways flights or on flights with its Oneworld partners. These partners include Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, AirBerlin, Finnair, Japan Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, and more. In addition, earn one Avios per $1 spent on all other purchases. Your Avios will expire if you don’t collect, spend, share, or purchase at least one Avios every three years.
Additional Benefits:
No Foreign Transaction Fees: Use your British Airways Visa Signature® Card wherever you go and keep earning Avios. There are no foreign transaction fees on purchases made outside the U.S.
Pay with Avios & Cash: If you’ve earned a small amount of Avios, you won’t get an airline ticket, but you can get a discount on whatever ticket you’re purchasing. Being able to redeem your rewards, even if you haven’t earned that many, is valuable if you’re frugal. Other rewards programs that are more all-or-nothing don’t offer that same flexibility.
Bottom Line:
With the British Airways Visa Signature® Card, new cardholders can earn a total of 100,000 bonus Avios within their first year of card membership. For the value of the Travel Together Ticket, this card is great and well worth its $95 annual fee for those who travel and spend frequently. In addition, Avios gives you the flexibility to redeem for non-British Airway flights, as long as they’re within the Oneworld alliance. Thus, you have the opportunity to travel to hundreds of destinations around the world on many different airlines, both domestically and internationally, using your Avios. However, if you can’t spend or travel enough to cover the annual fee, this card may not be the right one for you.
