In 2014, Walmart launched their very own domestic money transfer service called Walmart2Walmart with help from Ria. Later, Walmart would go on to introduce Walmart2World, a global money transfer service powered by MoneyGram.
Some of their key features is that the pricing structure is fixed, the exchange rates are competitive and the delivery of funds usually take only a few minutes.
How It Works
Walmart’s money transfer services can be categorized into three groups: domestic, bill pay, and international.
Walmart2Walmart: Domestic Transfers with Ria
Powered by Ria, this method lets you send money to family and friends in the United States and Puerto Rico. Through the Walmart app you can begin the money transfer service using the Mobile Express Money Services, but you must go to a Walmart to complete the transfer. Recipients must then collect their money at a Walmart location.
Walmart2World: International Transfers with MoneyGram
For international transfers, you can send money quickly to any MoneyGram location in over 200 countries. Using the same process of going into the Walmart app and using the Mobile Express Money Services, online from your computer, or at an agent location, you can initiate a transfer.
Keep in mind that you have a limit of $10,000 for per online transfer and $10,000 per transfer every 30 days. So, if you need to send a larger amount, you may get higher limits by visiting a Walmart or MoneyGram agent location.
Recipients can either receive their Walmart2World transfer through:
- Cash pickup at a Walmart or MoneyGram agent location.
- Sent to their bank account.
Walmart Bill Pay
Partnering up with MoneyGram, Walmart is now offering bill paying services that can be used for car payments, credit card payments, utilities, taxes, mortgage, rent, healthcare and much more. You will have the option to complete the transfer either online or in-store.
Online Fees | $1.99 – $12.99 |
In-Store Fees | $0 – $9.99 |
Online Bill Pay Limit | $3,000 every 30 days |
In-Store Bill Pay Limit | May be higher |
Fees & Rates
Depending on where you’re sending your money transfer to, how much you’re sending, and your payment method, the fees will vary. Normally, fees are lower if you pay with a bank account.
Fees are slightly higher if you pay with a credit or debit card. If you wanna know how much an online transfer will cost, you can estimate fees through their website.
Transfer Speed
Transfers for cash pickup are available within minutes if you need the cash fast. If you’re sending by bank transfer, it can take as little as a few minutes up until the next day. At the end of the day, how quickly it takes depends on banking hours and system availability in the receiving country.
