Beware of the Fees
There is a steep $30 monthly fee unless you have either 1) $50,000 in all linked deposits/retirement accounts 2) $100,000 in all linked accounts including investment accounts 3) $250,000 or more including Citi mortgages. Obviously, the primary downside is that a high minimum balance of $50,000 – $250,000 must be maintained every month with certain Citi accounts. There is a Citibank Account package that has easier requirements for only 20K bonus points.
Citibank Citigold Checking Promotion:
Tough call really. The 40K bonus ThankYou points for $400 in gift cards is the biggest bank bonus available out there. However, with such a high balance to remain fee-free, it’s a tough sell since your money is locked up. I would recommend to open the regular Citibank Account package for 20K bonus points instead unless you have the $50K to avoid the monthly fee.
