About 2 months but too late to qualify for the offer at lower tiers. They told me I was still expected to deposit 2 million to get a 2k bonus despite holding the 15k required for lowest tier offer. Apparently for offers under 2k you must click the link hidden in the fine print. I don’t see that link in the current offer. I tried this offer 2 years ago so maybe it’s changed since then.
Nick S says
Does anyone know how long they wait before automatically converting the Citigold account to Citi Priority package due to insufficient funds (less than $200k)?
Jeanie says
I wish CitiGold offer would be clear. Do they need $1000 in debit card use within 60 days of account opening/ Or once each month of the 60 days?
AND
what about the Bill Pay..once in 60 days or each month of the 60 days.
I am still waiting for my debit card and it is past 15 days of account opening. Helloooo? Thier online chat is restricted to sometimes working and often not, so only way to get help is via phone call and each time you get a different rep!
Sharon E Kahn says
Lucky you! It’s been a nightmare for me. Never in my life have I dealt with such an unprofessional and incompetent bank. They never completed a single one of their tasks within the promised time period: making “trial deposits” to my other bank account so I could transfer my initial deposit (10 days!), sending me my checks (6 weeks!), establishing online access (4 months, because I could not get them to send me the debit card and PIN, without which I could do nothing). Once I finally got access I was relieved to see that my initial deposit was there, but no sign of the $400 bonus. When I inquired about that, I was told that they had lost track of my “Promo Code” and I would have to provide it to them. Fortunately I had written down what I believe to be the Promo Code back when I applied, but I am still waiting. I am sorry I ever started down this path and will be surprised if I ever get the bonus.

Just so people have a success story here, I just got my $400, about 95 days into the process. What a relief!
Mike Law says
They just screwed me too out of the $400. I called in Aug/Sept and the Citi rep supposedly put me in the program (I already had a Citi checking so only needed then afterwards to add the $15K to an existing Citi savings, he/she said). After months, as I start calling, they now tell me I did not open a NEW checking so I’m not entitled to the $400. They’ve had my $15K since Sept. They’ve had me as a customer for 18 years. No longer. Not sure CFPB complaint will work. Citi will just say the same thing they’re now telling me, saying the previous rep “gave wrong info,” and indicating they can’t be held accountable for their rep’s mistake.

We opened our account in August also. Fulfilled all their requirements by 8/31/16. W9 certification complete. Called numerous times, spoke with Supervisors, etc. Still no money. We did the $400.00 bonus. Get tons of excuses and promise dates.
mary ann dolan says
Mike, we’re going through exactly the same thing. they said our w9 was missing information (couldn’t tell me what).. refaxed to them. followed up numerous times, spoke with supervisors. still no money. they’ve had our $10k since August 30th!….Next will be a call to the BBB.
Mike says
Update…. almost 4 weeks later. 2 more promised dates have come and gone and still no bonus
Romeo Red says
its not working as it is promised. They are collecting people’s hard earned money and keeping it free on the promise and not fulfilling the promise
Mike says
I’m 2 weeks past my 90 days for the Citi $400 bonus.
I called last week and was told it would be 1 more week
Yesterday I received a letter from Citi requesting a W9, as the 1st one was rejected (she couldn’t say why) On Todays phone call I was told one of the requirements to receive the bonus is an approved W9. I’ve now sent a 2nd W9 and patiently waiting
I don’t have a good feeling about this and can see a road trip in my future to visit a branch to get this straightened out. Hopefully everything works out, but we’ll see
Laura Danon says
It’s 90 days and then they still don’t pay you…. I would be very leary!
Laura Danon says
We waited 90 days and were told we have to wait another 60 days to maybe get iyt 400.00 that makes no sense! So happy I have been a gold member for 30 years!

You are lucky!. I opened on 08/31/2016 and just got $ 50 bonus today. I called customer service to find out what happen. I was told that they will investigate the matter and will mail me an explanation letter. What about the letter say I am not eligible, then I don’t think I can do anything. I really think Citibank is sucks. I put 15K in Citibank for three months for the $ 50, there is a stupid of me to do that.

Went into a Citibank branch and spoke to the manager. First I spoke to a banker and asked if Citibank honors its promotions. He assured me that it does. He suggested that I speak to the manager to feel assured. The manager read the bonus offer that conspicuously boasts “EARN $400” and pointed out the line stating, “Enrollment in this offer does not guarantee eligibility.” She said that meeting all concrete terms stated consisting of depositing required amount of funds and retaining them as stated and not having had an account for 60 days or more are not sufficient to be eligible. I asked her what are the specific requirements to be eligible. She said that she doesn’t know but that I can call customer support. I told her that I’m TALKING TO HER, THE MANAGER! I asked her to call to learn the eligibility requirements. She refused. Citibank does not want to have to state the terms of the offer because they would then be bound to pay the bonus and they want to be able to deny it. I told her that Citibank is engaging in commercial bad faith. She did not respond. I went back to the banker to inform him of my talk with the manager, and he said that that’s crazy. It’s simply bad faith. They want to hold customers’ money and feel free to give nothing in exchange. Few people are going to suspect that the meaning of satisfying all stated terms does not guarantee bonus. Most people are not even going to read this line. Chase bank states that it gives only only bonus per calendar year. Chase acts in good faith.
Barbara says
Citibank is breaching the bonus terms. Eligibility requires that there be NO account for 60 days. I went to Citibank on Broadway @111th street in Manhattan, and was told that since I had an account previously, even though it is 60 days since I closed it, that instead of opening a new account carrying the bonus, they will reopen the account that I closed and offer NO bonus. The rep the day before promised to open a new account with the bonus, and actually, Citibank is claiming that they have $600 and $800 bonus offers, as well, but when I returned to open the new account the rep said that she talked to her manager because she suspected that I was opening the account only for the bonus and that they were unwilling to offer it because I closed an account previously. ANOTHER WORDS, THE SO CALLED ELIGIBILITY OF NEW CUSTOMER = 60 DAYS WITHOUT AN ACCOUNT, IS BS. Lovely. The bank gives 0 interest. Why else would anyone want an account at Citibank!
nnlge says
I believe you only need to keep the 15K there for 30 days.
Elizabeth Pham says
You should be able to apply online through the sign up link provided. The offer is available through their website and the fine print did not exclude any states. Let us know if this works/does not work for you. Thanks!

Can I open an account and get bonus in Ohio where there is no Citi branch?

Is there an early closure fee? Can this be done entirely online if there’s no Citi branch near me?

To qualify for a $400 cash bonus, open a new checking account in either The Citigold Account Package or The Citibank Account Package by 08/31/16.
So its not ONLY the $50k gold account.. The $15k qualifies too.
david eng says
So I did the $50k for $500. It took a lot of prodding but eventually got the $500. I asked for an inquiry about the whole ordeal and they awarded me a bonus $500 something like I didn’t receive interest on the account since I opened in Feb’16. Woot woot, $1000!
jim says
CITI sucks.. they are scammers and they dont live up to their promises.. i deposited 50,000 may 12 and after 90 days was supposed to get a 500 dollar bonus.. its Aug 16 and still nothing.. i have called customer service many times.. they give you the run around i have emailed them online and was SPECIFICALLY TOLD THAT I WOULD RECEIVE THE BONUS money by AUG 13.. still no money.. when contacting the exact same person thru my acccount .. i was told they needed to investigate it again and that could take 60 days because they were overflowed with people not getting their rewards cash.. yet this is supposed to be a GOLD account better than a regular accounts.. SHAM.. would have been better off to stick this money with discoverbank which pays 1% on MMA and .95% on savings accounts.. compared to citi’s MEASLEY 0.03%
David Eng says
after 6 months, finally got my $500. had to talk to quite a bit of people. good thing i had documentation of who i talked to and kept asking them to note it on the account that this is the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time. if you ever get stuck, just called the citigold phone number. probably helped that there’s the $15k for $400.
richie says
ya happend to me also when i tried to open for my wife same way.. i think its better to go to a branch and open then opening online or by calling.. twice i opened the accounts and got the promotions just the second i have to keep calling to get the bonus.
eric says
So all i need to do is deposit 15k into this account and hold it there for 4 months and i get 400$??
Jim says
Opened account on March 22 (Citigold – $500 for $50,000 deposit). Bonus posted on June 30 (with a little prodding). Downgraded to Basic Checking on July 1 (processed July 7). ACHed all but $1500 out on July 11. Waited to the ACH to clear and then went into a branch on July 14 to close the account.
Dan says
I opened the account with ctitbank for the 400$ cash bonus which requires 15k in the account for four months and they told me no fees will be charged and after the four months are done and I receive the cash bonus I can close the account with no penalties or them taking the cash back. I did it and now I wait for that money which is 8% interest for four months : ) also said you can do a joined account and double up with two accounts

Tried opening a new account today. Citibank requested SS#, Drivers license, passport, utility bill, and proof of my employment before opening it. I faxed it all to them. Fraud dept called me back and asked how I got it all over to them so quickly. I said I had it on file. I asked why they needed it; the response, “So we have the information handy to send out pre-approved credit cards.” I said I dont want it and to please delete my information that isnt needed for the new account; they said they cant do that; and that these are requirements for phone applications.
Richard Fried says
They Recd soon many applications and 50,000 deposits they say so they can’t keep up with it. Poor citibank they were swamped with trillions of dollars they don’t know what to do

Stay away from Citibank promotions. I opened a Citigold account using AAdvantage promotion code and fulfiled all requirements. Also got a written confirmation from the Citigold representative that I have met all conditions and promotion will be awarded in 3 months. I had been waiting while paying 30$ monthly fee. Now, they are saying that they won’t give the promotion reward as they never sent me a targeted offer. They are also declining to refund any fee that I have paid. This is whole a big scam and lot of miscommunication from their customer service. Needless to say, I am closing my accounts ASAP.

openned an account on 2/25/16 using instructions above, deposited $50k, it’s been 30 days but haven’t seen my $500. What’s going on?

This is one messed up bank. I opened an account over the phone, mentioning the promo code. Three weeks later, I made the transfer of 50K from an external account to Citi. Transaction was declined. Called customer service. They said no promo code is associated with this account. Really? Very nice. Then spoke with the fraud dept. They thought it was a fraud because it was a large amount. Really? You ask people to transfer to you up to 50K and then you are shocked that they are doing that?!? I called several more times, each time they say something else. I asked for a written approval that I will get the bonus when I fund my account. Good thing I have not funded it yet. I am closing the account and will never use this bank. They are not worth the headache and waste of time.
Sam says
Anthony, the CitiGold $500 promo link is online. However, when we called to enroll in the promotion, the tele-sales agent said this was a *targeted* promotion and people who were not targeted would not receive the bonus. Where did you find this promotion since its not on the Citibank website, like previous promotions have shown up. The previous Savings *Up to* nonsense $500 promotion was on the Citi.com website.
William says
Thoroughly agree. Before depositing I attempted to verify the tie to the promotion. Wasn’t even in the system. Would they add the promo code. NO. Entirely new app was required. This bank SUCKS
Yoma says
Again another horrible experience. my wife tried to open an account and got a letter saying cannot verify your identify (BIG BS) so declining your application. No recourse to this action! Called the bank and they say go to your nearest branch( there is none in my area). Is Citi not wanting new business or not wanting to give away the bonus? Has anyone ever opened an account with these idiots and got a bonus? I am ready to write to any one in citi to bring this stupid inefficient account opening process. I am taking away all my business elsewhere.
Janice says
The problem is that the promotion code for this promotion in this blog is wrong. The offer is good until 2/29/16. The correct promotion code is 439G8TGJJJ. Citibank has two promotions going at the same time. Hustlermoneyblog is giving out the promotion code for an unrelated promotion of Citibank to earn 5 times interest on a savings account.

I have $36000 i am looking for a cash back in return promotion the $50 000 is a bit too much
Yoma says
I had a strange experience with Citibank when I tried to use this code and open an account. I am sure they were in the process of taking down this offer at the time I applied(first week of December). I call after a few days to see if my account is opened and they say that my application has been “declined” and a letter will follow. Then the letter comes which states something in the credit bureau report made them deny my application. I called the mentioned bureau right away only to see my credit score was where it was upwards of 810 and no id theft or any bad even had occurred. I call citi again saying, why do you need my credit report when I am giving you money(50K) and not asking fro credit. This time the rep herself was surprised too, but said she will try applying for me on the phone. But none of the codes here worked (on 12/26). But just out of curiosity about declining, I asked her to go ahead and I was told to call back 12/28 to check my application status. Called and they said it is approved. (wow, what a surprise)… Anyways, I said I am not interested in funding this account and asked them to close out the application…. Anyone else have this kind of experience????
Anthony Nguyen says
Yeah, apparently they took down this offer.
