JetBlue TrueBlue Important Rules & Fees

Before we talk about the best ways to redeem your JetBlue TrueBlue points, let’s go over some quick, but important redemption details:

You can redeem your points on any JetBlue flight with no blackout dates.
Taxes and fees apply to award flights and will vary based on your departure and destination cities.
Families can pool TrueBlue points into a family account.

JetBlue Flights

Similar to Southwest and how their point system works, you can purchase any seat on any JetBlue flight to earn points for that flight. With this reward system, there is no blackout dates.

Award pricing for this point system is cost-based, so more expensive flights will require more TrueBlue points. With this type of system, it’s difficult to try and get the most value out of your rewards. The best piece of advice we can give you is to make sure when you spend your TrueBlue points, that it is worth at least $0.013 per point, which is what we value it at.

You can extend the value of your points even further if you have the JetBlue Plus Card. Not only will you earn bonus points and enjoy one free checked bag for you and up to three travel companions, you’ll also receive 10% of your points back when you redeem for JetBlue flights.

Hawaiian Airlines Flights

JetBlue has a few airline partners, but the only one you can redeem TrueBlue points with is Hawaiian Airlines. Instead of a cost-based model, award pricing for Hawaiian flights is region-based:

Although you need to double check when trying to book your flights, Hawaiian Airlines still offers you the best value out of Hawaiian awards. Unfortunately, there is no way to book these partner awards online, so you will have to call 1-800-JETBLUE and talk to a phone representative.

JetBlue Seat Upgrades

If you’ve been flying frequently then there is a good chance that you have TrueBlue Mosaic status. With this status, you will have the option to use your poitns to upgrade to Even More Space seats, which are seats that have more legroom than your regular domestic First Class seats.

The exact cost of the upgrade will vary based on the cash price of the seat upgrade but this is a well known way to get the most value out of your TrueBlue points.

JetBlue Vacations

JetBlue Vacations is a bype of booking portal that allows you to search for flight and hotel room packages at a discounted price. You won’t be able to redeem your TrueBlue points towards an entire JetBlue Vacations package, but you can use them for a discount on one.

Again, it will all depend on the destination and hotel choice, but the discounted amount usually yields a value far above the average $0.013 per point that we talked about earlier in the post. Keep in mind, you likely won’t earn hotel points on your JetBlue Vacations stay.

Magazine Subscriptions

An odd curveball to getting value out of your TrueBlue points is through magazine subscriptions. At the time of publishing, you can redeem 3 points for $1 towards redeeming for a magazine subscription at Magazines.com. That is a $0.33 per point value, far exceeding the $0.013 average value for the TrueBlue program.

Bottom Line

JetBlue TrueBlue is a great rewards program if you would utilize any of the methods we’ve mentioned above. Other than that, this rewards program does not offer much flexibility in terms of redeeming and getting the most value out of your points.
