Are you currently flying American Airlines? It’s one of the biggest airlines in the world with many loyal customers and great rewards program. The new Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® World MasterCard® is now offering 30,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles and 2 Admirals Club® Passes after making $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of cardmembership. The 30,000 bonus miles is more than enough for any U.S continental flight ticket. The Citi AA card also made many new improvements and perks to make this card more attractive for new and existing consumer cardholders of Citi AA cards.
With the improved offer of 30,000 AAdvantage miles from the Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® World MasterCard®, new cardholders can reach the $1,000 spending requirement pretty easily. Simply put your monthly groceries/gas bill on the card will put your over that amount. If you can book for the restricted MileSAAver award seats, you will have leftover miles from the 30,000 bonus miles even if you want a round-trip economy ticket within the continental U.S. (including Alaska) and Canada. Don’t forget that when you redeem AAdvantage bonus miles, the 10% redemption will also kick in as new AAdvantage bonus miles with up to 10,000 bonus miles in a calendar year.
Not familiar with the rewards program of the Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® World MasterCard®? Cardmembers earn two AAdvantage miles for every dollar spent on eligible American Airlines purchases and one AAdvantage mile for every dollar spent on other purchases. Miles earned by this card will never expire as long as A) You redeem American Airlines AAdvantage® miles, or B)You earn miles on an American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection carrier, or C) You earn miles through an approved American Airlines AAdvantage participant.
Citi AA Card Features:
- Earn 30,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles and 2 Admirals Club® Passes after making $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of cardmembership.*
- Your first eligible checked bag is free*
- Group 1 boarding and 25% savings on eligible in-flight purchases*
- Earn a $100 American Airlines Flight Discount every cardmembership year with qualifying purchases and cardmembership renewal*
- Double AAdvantage® miles on eligible American Airlines purchases*
- Earn 10% of your redeemed AAdvantage® miles back – up to 10,000 AAdvantage® miles each calendar year*
As mentioned above, you can receive $100 flight ticket discount for spending at least $30,000 in purchases each year. The American Airlines fliers will also get to check one standard eligible bag for free (typically $25 for a domestic flight) + free first checked bags of up to four traveling companions (must be on the same reservation as the primary cardholder).
They will also be charging cardmembers a $95 annual fee, however the fee is waived during the first year. Usually, as long as first year is free, I would apply for at least the bonus reward points, use the card for the year, see how much I saved from the perks, and may keep the card if the fee warrants the saving per year. For those who are frequent American Airlines fliers, the first-checked-bag-free benefit would more than cover that annual fee within one round-trip itinerary for two people. In summary, the combination of 30K bonus miles and many travel perks make the Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® World MasterCard® worth applying for. Sign up today!

Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature – Please apply for this card with caution…not all incentives will be honored. After applying for this card under a “Holiday Promotion” in December of 2012 which promised “35,000 advantage miles after $1,500 in spending “if you apply by January 31st, I have been notified that the terms have changed, now to “40,000 advantage miles after $3,000 in spending”. While my account meets and exceeds the minimum spending limits for the ORIGINAL offer I applied for, these new “terms” exclude me from receiving any miles. Citi and the Advantage rewards department do not provide any direct contact information or customer support other than the website communication, which responds with canned answers and stock responses. Read their terms of service carefully for yourself, as their promotions and terms of use can change without any warning and at the detriment of the consumer. You may be applying for a rewards incentive, and have it completely change without notice. Make sure you read the fine print: “ American Airlines reserves the right to change the AAdvantage® program rules, regulations, travel awards and special offers at any time without notice”
