Third party gift cards can usually only be used by one retailer. However, that isn’t the case when the retailer is owned by the same parent company. To put this into perspective, Panera Bread gift cards can only be used at Panera Bread. This isn’t the case for Bed Bath and Beyond, because they are owned by the same parent company as Buy Buy Baby. This means that gift cards bought from Bed Bath and Beyond can be used at Buy Buy Baby and visa versa.

Happy Gift Cards
Happy Gift Cards was released in 2018 and took a different approach to gift cards. Rather than restricting the card to one retailer, each card could be used at 4 or more places that are in interest to the card holder. For example, the Happy Teen Gift Card has access to Regal Cinemas, Nike, Sephora, and more!
Benefits
The reason these cards are so beneficial is because they offer many more choices to the customer rather than limited them to one location. With more flexibility, customers are more likely to purchase and use the gift cards!
An additional benefit to these cards is that when they were released, stores were buying them and selling them to the public at discounts. GiftCardMall offered 20% off $50 cards, Office Depot sold $150 cards with a $20 discount, Safeway gave 10% off when spending $150, etc. These were great ways to secure discounts to your local retailers.
Gift Card Reselling
These discounted Happy gift cards also offered opportunities to gift card resellers. For example, Happy Guy gift cards can be used at Home Depot and their stores have gift card racks. You could therefore buy a $150 Happy Guy gift card for $130 from Office Depot, then take that card to Home Depot and buy $150 of third party gift cards that were more valuable (e.g. eBay, Amazon, etc). Those third party gift cards could then be resold for more than the $130 initial outlay, making it a profitable deal.
Recently, MetaBank has added some restrictions in terms of third party gift card purchases when using Happy gift cards. The restrictions don’t appear to be as hard coded at Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond or Buy Buy Baby, but it could make transactions trickier.

I received a Happy Guy gift card this past Christmas. I tried to use it at two of the listed stores and it was denied. I’ve called customer service 4 times and they are not helpful at all, they all said the exact same thing, “we need a copy of the original receipt, it has a code on it we need to refund your money. ” They acknowledge the card was paid for and has a $50 balance. My wife talked me into contacting the person that bought the card and they have misplaced the receipt. They wanted to send me a $50 check which was not my intent. Now I’m embarrassed, the gift giver is embarrassed, and Happy Gift Cards is the only one happy. Do not buy these cards!!
Don’t waste your money on any of the Happy giftcards. They suck. It’s a pain for the receiver of the giftcard. They cannot be used online no matter what they say. Tried to use it online with Home Depot and even called their customer service. Waste of time. They can apparently only be used in store which makes them a huge hassle. Ended up purchasing a home depot giftcard for the remaining balance of my order and the happy guy giftcard still didn’t work, now I’m stuck with a home depot giftcard that I purchased to try to complete my online order because of this stupid happy guy card.
These cards are awful. They never work. You cannot redeem on line and the stores cannot run them either. Do not purchase. You will be so disappointed. .
Happy cards will leave you unhappy stay away. Customer service is in central America and not friendly and no service.
I purchased a happy gift card for my daughter for Christmas. She was able to use it twice at Burger King before it quit working, leaving over $80 on the card. She has now tried it at 3 stores listed on the card, to no avail. We have called the customer support line multiple times who just kept telling us to try the card somewhere else. Finally the 4th time, they have decided they will give us a credit but it’s going to take another damn month to get it. THIS IS REDICULOUS!!!! DO NOT BUY!!! All of the stores that she tried using it at (that are listed on the cards) said they are terrible, the stores are always having problems with them, and they can’t do anything to help us either.
I tried to use a happy gift card at listed restaurant. We were told that the card had been used previously and had a zero balance. I know for a fact this was not the case. I called customer service at happy gift cards and was told the cards are like cash, and I was out of luck. $50 gone. Nothing they could do in any circumstance. terrible
Received Happy Holidays card as gift. Could not read code. Notified Customer Service. Sent required info 4 times. Customer Service response…did not get info, case closed. I have documentation that all info was sent, not worth the effort.
try to fine how much is on the card but can not be cause than ask for ex date which it does not have so it will not tell me
Happy gift cards sucks. Ordered 12/11 for Xmas present. Shipped 12/13 usps. Requested tracking number but they refuse to give it to me. Xmas here and no gift card for my wife. I’ll never ever use again!
So if you have a (for example) $200 Happy Lady gift card can you go to a Bed Bath and Beyond and use it to buy a $200 Happy Dining card (or some other Happy “x” card)?
