The Mandarin Oriental New York Hotel is a contemporary styled hotel with distinctly Asian influences. The beautiful reception area definitely shows elegance and sophistication from its sleek circular space, light cove ceiling, natural stone and exotic floral displays.
Rooms
This location includes 202 rooms and 46 suites that is offered by the Mandarin Oriental New York is situated above the city on floors 35 to 54, so expect spectacular views no matter which room is yours. On top of that, all guestrooms feature Asian-inspired decor, high end electronics, floor-to-ceiling windows, custom-designed Fill D’Oro linens, rainfall showerheads and marble tubs.
Our Presidential Suite was a massive 2,640 square feet on the 53rd floor and included a kitchen, dining area, study and panoramic views of Central Park and the city. It featured handcrafted rugs, custom-designed furnishings, unique artwork and stunning artifacts, all tied together with a chocolate brown color scheme, punctuated with luminous gold and deep red accessories. The master bedroom felt luxurious with its upholstered silk walls and a spacious, sycamore-paneled, walk-in closet. Lastly, the bathroom did not disappoint with an oversized bath and a glass-enclosed steam shower for two.
Facilities
To help you unwind after a long day, check out The Spa at Mandarin Oriental New York because the offer a variety of treatments in a luxurious and soothing environment. Come before your appointment to enjoy the spa’s heat and water facilities and a refreshing herbal concoction at the Oriental Tea Lounge before your treatment. After, you can take a dip in the 75-foot indoor lap pool.
Their fitness center also comes with some of of the most state-of-the-art technology, such as their Technogym cardio and strength-training equipment. For some retail therapy, we easily accessed the adjoining Shops at Columbus Circle (Coach, Cole Haan, Hugo Boss, Williams Sonoma and more) through a private guest entrance.
Food & Drink
Their in-house restaurant is Asiate, which offers innovative, modern American cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner in a light and airy space with amazing views of New York City. Breakfast choices are more traditional and dinner is a three-course or chef’s-choice fixed menu. Opt for lunch there if you want à la carte options. The menu changes seasonally, but may include dishes like tuna tartare with sesame rice cracker, tagliatelle with wild mushrooms and dry-aged steak with black garlic sauce.
Additionally, you can check out the Aviary NYC Drink Kitchen, which also overlooks the park and serves creative and stunning cocktails like a rye whiskey-based “Wake and Bake.” This drink comes in a bag and, when sliced open, fills the room with aromas of orange, coffee and the everything bagel – the classic New York breakfast.
Tucked away next to The Aviary, accessible through a hidden passageway, is The Office NYC. It features an intimate, speakeasy-style space and a collection of some of the rarest spirits in the world that go for hundreds of dollars an ounce.
Service
Once we got off the elevator at the 35th-floor lobby, we were greeted with green tea and reception staff were warm and engaging. And as we were waiting for a table at The Aviary, the manager came over to chat with us while staff readied our table – a nice hospitable touch.
Location
Located in Time Warner’s north building at Columbus Circle, Mandarin Oriental New York is within walking distance of Central Park, the MoMA, Lincoln Center and the Theatre District. Foodies can take advantage of the hotel’s proximity to fine-dining hotspots Jean-Georges, Per Se and Masa, while fashionistas will enjoy the endless shopping at Time Warner.
