If you own a property in the United States as of 9/30/2013, on which specific CertainTeed products were installed on or before the date, you may be eligible to claim up to several thousand dollars from the CertainTeed Siding Class Action Lawsuit. The qualifying CertainTeed products include CertainTeed WeatherBoards Fiber Cement Siding, Lap Siding, Vertical Siding, Shapes, Soffit, Porch Ceiling, and 7/16” Trim. Your claim in this lawsuit will be approved as long as you can prove that any of the aforementioned products have been subject to shrinkage, warping, cracking, bowing, or delamination. CertainTeed denies the claim that their products are defective but has decided to settle the matter outside of court.
When you submit a valid Claim Form, you will be offered a cash payment based on several criteria: the extent of the Qualifying Damage; the proportion of the wall with Qualifying Damage; the size of the wall; the length of time the siding has been installed; and whether the Qualifying Damage was caused by a third party or as a result of improper installation or storage. The amount of money you can receive from the CertainTeed class action settlement will also be based on how long you have already been able to use the siding.
You can view different CertainTeed products from these examples.

I built our retirement home in 2006. The advertising made the siding sound like the best thing since sliced bread, it had 50-year warranty with a #1 rated badge on the back. Great! This company been around since I was a kid. I purchased 450 of C034365 7 1/2″ x 12′ Mahogany for $8014.49 called note: {WEATHER BEST}! Our home was completed 7th month of 2006, by spring of 2007 the paint was coming off, cracks in corners and in the middle of the siding. Letter customer service on 4/21/11 showed 253 pcs already failed. I filed a claim on the class action, lots of paperwork I got my first payment in2015 {$5753.36} Told bal. to come 2020. I called a lot #855-332-3413,
had to listen to a lot of music! I am short $11178.13! I ‘am sending letters to my Iowa State Offices for Help!
Received my letter today after waiting more than (8) years for a response to my filed claims under the class action. The letter state my second portion of my claim is officially DENIED, as they have run out of funds. I built my house in 2005, with the product failing in 2008… I filed a warrantee claim in 2009 with CertainTeed offering $3k towards a repair. The lowest estimate at the time was still more than $70k to replace the 1,000 cement boards on my house that were failing. My class action payout was $5k, which was not enough to cover the temporary paint job to cover up the defective boards. I now have to do a full replacement… Today was a punch in the gut, with a denial on the second half of my claim… I’ve lost faith in Class Action lawsuits… I will never spend another penny buying a CertainTeed product as long as I live. I also do not trust any “warrantees”, as my 30yr GAF Roof has also failed in less than 15yrs! For this one, the Class Action terms required “professional removal” from an authorized person within 2 weeks of claim request… which I couldn’t get scheduled, so now I’m unable to re-submit for (2) years… so frustrated!!
Same issue here. It’s like they hope we all forgot there was supposed to be a 2nd payment. It’s now been 2 years since the claim period ended and still nothing regarding second payments. Very frustrating and costly.
Still waiting for the second payout. No longer can reach anyone by phone, only generic email reply. Has anyone contacted a lawyer? My husband is considering it. So frustrating!
The crooked attorneys on this lawsuit took their cash up front and bailed.. we’re left with nothing ??U
I clearly remember being told be a claim representative at the time of the first payment recieved that “2nd payment will be settled and checks will be sent on/aound October 2020 and that the settle dollar amount will be ‘at least’ as much as the first payment.
I’m still waiting.
Now, it seems a series to delay tactics are cautiously being implemented.
@Ter – thank you for the feedback.
Did they sound like there is any money left?
I called and finally got someone to tell me that after the claims period ended that they needed to now re-calculate if there was any money left in the pool granted by the court. If so, then everyone with legitimate claims would be prorated on the second payout and the re-calculation would not be known until early summer 2021.
Has anyone gotten the second payment? I filed a claim and got paid the first payment in 2016 or so.
Has anyone found a resolution to their claim? Or at least talking to someone about the status? I’m also having issues getting any kind of response after submitting my claim. Only response I’ve been given is my claim is being reviewed and that was months ago. Nobody answers phone or responds to additional emails. The building materials company that I bought siding from can’t get an answer either and they’re working it through regional and national siding representatives.
I submitted a claim 9/2016 and they requested additional information. I got the first check in 2017. I am curious if anyone know when second checks (final ) will be sent?
Same thing here. Full package sent certified mail (and receipt returned) with all documents requested and a CD disk with a 59 slide Powerpoint presentation of pictures. Received letter after 5 months stating they need more info. I’ve left voicemail to call– they don’t call back. Sent three emails requesting follow-up, receive a generic “call the claims administrator at phone…” wash, rinse, repeat. I don’t think they have any intent to settle these claims but I hope to find what court this was settled in to see if we can leverage them from that angle.
I’m getting the same run around. No payment no one answers the calls. My siding keeps deteriorating. Has anyone been paid yet?
Same exact thing is happening to me and its sooo frustrating!! I emailed them all the info they asked for, got a pretty quick response they needed “more info” got that same response 2 more times then I called to check up on the status after I sent actual photos through the mail instead of email and they said they would let me know within a few months the status, I thought finally someone is looking into it, only to get yet ANOTHER letter stating they needed more info…ughh!
Exact same issues here. They are slow playing it big time.
I submitted my claim a year ago and have gotten letters every 4 months asking for more information that was already sent the first time. When I e-mail them asking for an update, I get a very general response stating that they are working on it. I think this complete crap as my entire home as bad siding on it and is falling off.
I have submitted all the proper claim paper work along with photo of issues to certainTeed received a Claim Number of 2002447, and I call and all they tell me is that they need more info. It appears that they want to just keep asking for the same info in a different way. They won’t send and inspector to the house to verifiy the issue they want me an 72 year old to climb a ladder to take measurements of the gaps and issues with the siding.
