In this review, we’ll cover our magnificent stay at one of Bayou City’s most luxurious, five-star hotels.
Style
JW Marriott is centered around art as it is composed of curated collection of Texas-made paintings, sculptures and furniture throughout the hotel. This can include ranges of from the modern lobby, augmented sculpture that commanded the open-plan, the 13-foot bronze and steel griffin, to a custom coffee table with metal parts, gears and human figurines.
A design nod to the building’s history is the original iron support beams were left uncovered throughout the lobby and hallways. However, the most magical room in the entire hotel is the ninth-floor boardroom. This is because it beautifully features original marble floors, stained glass windows, mahogany paneling and a striking fireplace.
Rooms
All of the 328 rooms and suites at the JW Marriott feature luxurious, modern finishes and integrated technologies. We were able to wonderfully relax in our Superior King Room. It included a comfy bed, sculpted tub, mood lighting and contemporary details.
Features that made us want to stay in our room all day long was the free WiFi and an HDTV with 120 channels. The room also included the in-room iPad made ordering room service, reserving a spa treatment and summoning the valet very easy.
Facilities
Spa by JW is the hotel brand’s first spa in the country. They offer a variety of services, treatments and amenities. This include foot soaks, waxing and scalp treatments, along with the requisite massages and facials. Not only is the hotel equipped with a spa but a gym as well. The 24-hour fitness center was equipped with cardio equipment and free weights.
The JW Marriott also housed six state-of-the art event rooms, 12,839 square feet of total space, including the Picasso meeting space which can host theater-style events for up to 800 attendees.
Food & Drink
The Main Kitchen restaurant and 806 Lounge served up Southern comfort food and handcrafted cocktails with a creative twist that you have to try when you are here.
Trust us, you will not regret the Chicken and Waffles here. The hotel even offer order delivery from other restaurants in the area, which was a nice perk.
Service
The staff were very friendly at the JW Marriott Houston Downtown. They offered personalized service and in-depth local knowledge. The bellman was ready to assist us with our luggage at the moment that we arrived.
We were warmly greeted by the front desk, and check-in went quickly and smoothly. Concierge offered restaurant suggestions and booked us Astros tickets. In addition, we also got complimentary rides around downtown with the hotel’s chauffeured Tesla Model X.
Location
The JW Marriott, housed in the 22-story Carter Building, is within walking distance of the George R. Brown Convention Center, Minute Maid Park and the Jones Hall for the Performing Arts. The hotel offers direct access to the city’s public transit system, so getting to the area’s popular attractions was extremely convenient.
