Huntington Bank also known as Huntington Bancshares has been around for over 150 years. Originally founded in 1866 as The Huntington National Bank, there has a few minor iterations in name, but major advances in providing the best service possible. Huntington has a long unique history. Huntington Bank had its start as the State Bank of Ohio chartered by the government in response to the de-charting of the Second Bank of the United States and the Panic of 1837. Pelatiah Webster Huntington became the president of executive branch at State Bank of Ohio and decided to not renew the bank’s annual state charter in 1865. After the Bank’s liquidation, Huntington and David Deshler formed a partnership to better serve the people of Ohio. Huntington eventually became the sole proprietor of P.W. Huntington & Company upon purchasing the shares of his partner.
