The Chase Sapphire Reserve® is similar to the Sapphire Preferred card but is more suited for bigger spenders and frequent travelers. Southwest Airlines is great for traveling families since each person gets two free checked bags on all Southwest flights and there are no fees for flight changes. With the Rapid Rewards program, you book any available seat on the plane with your points.
If your family travels with a lot of baggage then it would make sense to opt for a cobranded Southwest card. The Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card is a low-cost card that’s better suited for infrequent Southwest flyers. If you fly more frequently, then we would recommend that you go with the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card instead.
The Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card offers Companion Pass® through 2/28/2022 plus 30,000 points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months. With Companion Pass®, every time you fly, your friend can too.
• 2x points per $1 spent on Southwest® purchases & Rapid Rewards® hotel/car rental partner purchases;
• 1x point on all other purchases - in which all points earned with either card count towards Companion Pass.
You're able to redeem your your points for flights, hotel stays, gift cards, access to events & more!
This card does carry a $69 annual fee.
The American Express® Gold Card is good option for families who spend a lot on dining and groceries. This card earns 4x points at U.S. supermarkets and restaurants worldwide.
Membership Rewards points are very flexible, giving your family plenty of travel options without having to commit to an airline or hotel program. These points are transferable to other programs, so they have high value potential. Amex Gold also comes with a $100 annual credit for airline incidentals, which helps offset the card’s annual fee.
The American Express® Gold Card offers 60,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $4,000 on eligible purchases with your new Card within the first 6 months.
