Style
This elegant hotel was design in 1929 by Leland A. Bryant in an Art Deco style. The hotel was recently redesigned, paying homage to the hotel’s history, but with a touch of glitz and glamour.
The Lawrence Weiner art installation in the Terrace Bar, the black marble basins, and the iconic gold wallpaper by pop artist Donald Robertson, all breathe new life into the legendary property.
Rooms
The Sunset Tower houses 51 guestrooms and 30 suites. Each room features floor-to-ceiling windows, fine Egyptian linens, custom furnishings and complimentary Nespresso. The bathroom in Deluxe King room is a spotlight with its signature gold wallpaper, huge shower and Kiehl’s toiletries.
Facilities
Sunset Tower facilities include a chic outdoor pool with sweeping views of downtown L.A., a 24-hour gym by Mansion Fitness and a spa by aesthetician to the stars, Joanna Vargas.
The gorgeous 7,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor fitness center (which was John Wayne’s apartment once upon a time) features state-of-the-art treadmills, elliptical cross-trainers, free weights and Canali equipment exclusive to Mansion Fitness.
The Spa by Joanna Vargas specializes in skincare technologies to modernize treatments and increase their effectiveness. I got the signature Triple Crown Facial and saw immediate visible results and lasting improvement of the lift and tone of my skin.
Food & Drink
Housed in Bugsy Siegel’s old apartment on the ground floor, the Tower Bar and Restaurant serves up fresh local ingredients with Italian and French twists.
For some poolside grubbing, guests can order the entire Tower Bar menu at The Terrace, along with assorted small bites and beverages.
Service
The Sunset Tower has a friendly and dedicated staff. Each staff member from the bell boy to the maitre d, performed above and beyond expectation. To make things a little sweeter, they also offered delicious, fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies!
Location
The Sunset Tower Hotel is located right on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, bordering Beverly Hills.
The hotel is directly across the street from Saddle Ranch, and The Comedy Store is just down the street. The Getty Museum and Santa Monica Beach is a 30-minute drive away. And it’ll take about 45 minutes to get to the hotel from the Los Angeles International Airport, without traffic.
