As previously mentioned, The Willard is a property steeped with history. This property is has frequently hosted the legendary icons such as Martin Luther King Jr. while he finished his “I Have a Dream” speech, Ulysses S. Grant when he coined the term “lobbyists”, and Senator Henry Clay when he introduced the mint julep outside of Kentucky.
In keeping with the historical theme, the hotel’s décor is old-world ornate, with marble pillars, coffered ceilings, heavy wood furniture, lush plants and plenty of gold trimmings.
The Willard InterContinental in Washington D.C. consists of 335 rooms and suites. Each room and suite is decorated with unique blend of contemporary luxury and historic charm, showcasing prime views of either Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House or downtown.
The 550-square-foot Willard Room features hues of ivory, navy and cool grey with gold accents. The bathroom was furnished with a walk-in marble shower and Agraria bath products. Notably one of the best parts of the room is the ridiculously comfortable Simmons luxury mattress, designed exclusively for InterContinental Hotels.
The Willard has nearly 20,000 square feet of gorgeous ballrooms and meeting spaces, making it a popular place to book events. It has been noted that the property hosts approximately 100 weddings each year. Additionally, the hotel offers a 24-hour fitness center with the latest TechnoGym equipment, an outdoor relaxation terrace, a business center and several retail shops.
All guests are welcomed to enjoy complimentary daily newspapers, shoe shining service and Tesla chauffeur service.
Food & Drink
When it comes to food and drink, the Willard InterContinental offers a few iconic places to stop. Guests can enjoy some French bistro fare at Café du Parc for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Alternatively, Peacock Alley is the perfect destination for the epic afternoon tea. Lastly, the famous Round Robin Bar is a must for some classic cocktails and light bites. Guests can indulge in the bar’s signature drink, the mint julep.
Neighboring the hotel is Occidental Grill & Seafood. Although this restaurant is not on the Willard property, guests are still able charge the meal to their room.

The Willard is located in “old downtown,” a prime location for leisure travelers. This property is across the street from The White House and adjacent to the Metro Center. Guests can head to the National Mall with a brief six-minute. It should be noted that the area gets pretty desolate after the nine-to-fivers head home for the day.
