Priority Pass Select Membership
Unfortunately, people cannot simply buy priority pass membership. Rather, it is included in a select number of premium travel cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve and The Platinum Card from American Express.
Priority Pass Select is the most similar to the Priority Prestige tier. There is no additional per visit fee for members. Also, if you have the right card, you can get additional guests in for free. The cards we mentioned in the above credit card both allow 2 free additional guests.
Priority Pass Features
As long as you’re a member of any of the Priority Pass tiers, you can enter to any of their lounges. It does not matter which airline you are flying with. All you have to show them is your same-day boarding pass and your Priority Pass membership card (digital cards on your phone is acceptable).
Priority Pass features will vary from lounge to lounge, but they generally come with free snacks, drinks, seating, charging outlets, reading materials and WiFi. Another thing to keep in mind is international lounges tend to offer more premium features than domestic ones. For example, food options are a lot better and some may even have conference rooms, showers, and spas.
In addition to their great lounges, Priority Pass members will have access to Minute Suites, which are private retreat post-security to nap, relax or work. Members can rent Minute Suites at a discounted rate of $28 per hour, and a 30-minute shower costs an additional $20.
Priority Pass Tips & Tricks
To avoid lounge overcrowding, Priority Pass offers credits (usually $28) to select airport restaurants. Some restaurants will let you bring a guest, so you’ll be able to get a combined $56 off your bill.
This restaurant perk is available on cards such as:
- Chase Sapphire Reserve
- Citi Prestige
- U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite Card
At some airports, you might get credits for non-restaurant items, like a nap room (PHL) or a golf green (MSP).
Take note, American Express cards now exclude non-lounge experiences – airport restaurants included.
At Priority Pass lounges in the United States, you can usually enter after arriving at your final destination. Why might this be a good idea? It’s a nice option to have if you’re feeling hungry and need to snack on something before hitting the road. Or, maybe you want to chill for a bit and avoid rush hour. Either way, the option is there for you to take.
We recommend downloading the Priority Pass app for a couple reasons:
- Don’t miss out on any lounges or experiences. Participating venues change often, so check the app as soon as you arrive at an airport.
- Download a digital membership card that’s accessible from the app. If you forget your physical Priority Pass card at home, you can use the digital version to enter most lounges.
Priority Pass Drawbacks
Although we’ve been talking about all the great things that Priority Pass has to offer throughout this post, it is not without its drawbacks. Here are some things you should know:
Limited domestic footprint. You won’t find many Priority Pass lounges within the United States. Instead, they’re heavily concentrated in Western Europe and North Asia.
Overcapacity. A victim of its own popularity, Priority Pass has now set limits on how many people can enter certain lounges at a given time. Back in the day, members were allowed unlimited guests. Now, the maximum is two or three guests, depending on your membership.
